Vale Gerard Petrie

Gerard Francis Petrie OAM died on 8 February 2017, 2 days before his 82 birthday. Amongst the numerous family and communal activities he undertook, he was the driving force behind the creation of Kew Community Festival when he was Mayor of the City Of Kew in 1974.

He was passionate that as much as possible the wider Kew community should be aware of, and able to participate in, the varied activities that happen in Kew: to help join together as a community.

There is no link on the Mayoral chain for Kew for that year, as Gerry (Gerard) felt that the cost of the link should be diverted towards the festival costs.

Vale Gerry. A long time mentor/supporter of Kew Festival. (posted 4 March 2017)
